FOOT & ANKLE PAIN

HAVING SEEN OVER 25,000 APPOINTMENTS, WE CAN HELP YOU.

Physiotherapy is the treatment of disease, injury or deformity of muscles, joints or nerves, by physical methods with the aim of restoring movement and function.

At The Foot and Ankle Clinic in Darlington, we specialise in treating just the lower limb, with the most common areas being the foot and ankle.

Our aim is to help people to avoid surgery or the need for injections and get back to living life to the full, pain free!

IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE WITH ANY OTHER PART OF THE BODY, UNFORTUNATELY WE AREN'T THE CLINIC FOR YOU, BUT THERE ARE EXCELLENT PHYSIOTHERAPISTS IN DARLINGTON WHO WILL BE ABLE TO HELP YOU.

What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Physiotherapist?

As Podiatrists we are specialists of the lower limb. Whereas a Physiotherapist (physio) treats muscoskeletal conditions anywhere in the body, we specialise in the one area. Our whole degree and training focuses on being the specialist of the one area, rather than a generalist of the whole body.

We quite often receive referrals from physiotherapists as we are so specialist in the treatment of muscles, joints and nerves in the lower limb and the complexities that the foot and ankle involve. Over a quarter of the bones in the body are found in the feet. With 33 joints, 26 bones and over a hundred muscles, ligaments and tendons, the foot is extremely intricate, which is why the area is a specialism in itself.

Will you just give me exercises?

No. Absolutely not.

The first appointment will be a comprehensive consultation, during which we will take a thorough history and carry out necessary tests where required. We will then put together, and talk you through, a bespoke treatment plan, answering any questions you may have so you can decide if you wish to proceed.Treatment may include hands on treatment and/or the use of specialist equipment such as laser and shockwave.

We are extremely fortunate to be one of the few clinics in the UK to have, a wide range of leading technology, including laser, focal shockwave, radial shockwave and SIS. It is normal for clinics to only have one or two of these pieces, if any. By having access to the full range, we can put together the best plan for you, rather than shoehorn you into what is available.

We are also fully trained in advanced techniques involving hands on therapy, such as mobilisations and manipulations, meaning we can combine technology and hands on therapy where required. We are fortunate to regularly receive referrals for people who haven’t been able to be treated successfully elsewhere, due to the combination of treatments that we offer.

Trusted by Help for Heroes to treat their veterans.

We are proud that Help for Heroes medical division refer veterans to us, due to the range of leading technology and techniques that we have under one roof and subsequent results that we achieve.

As a private practice in Darlington, a large number of our patients come from the surrounding areas such as Yarm/Teesside/Stockton/Middlesbrough and Cleveland to the east, Northallerton/Richmond/Catterick to the south, Barnard Castle to the west and Aycliffe/Bishop Auckland/Durham to the north.

Arrived at the clinic with two swollen ankles due to sport injuries. After 4 appointments and professional treatment I can now walk without any pain and all and the swelling has disappeared. I cannot thank this team enough. If you have problems with ankles don’t hesitate get in touch with the Foot & Ankle Clinic and let them work their magic on you also! Highly recommend! Thank you so much.

I approached the foot clinic with arthritic pain in my big toe joint, which was very painful and restricted walking and playing golf. I was prescribed a pair of orthotic insoles to isolate the joint. My treatment was very thorough and I had 3D scan of my feet and several follow up appointments to check on my progress. The insoles have made a huge difference and although I still have a small amount of discomfort it is manageable. the staff are very helpful and I would recommend the foot clinic to anyone.

Great service from professional experienced staff. I no longer have issues with my foot, and the stretching exercises have shown I have tight calves, which the exercises help greatly, with the added bonus of improving my running! I’m very grateful for such a professional service that cured my issue, allowing me to get back to normal very quickly.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the clinic?

The clinic is based at Morton Park in Darlington, Co. Durham.  We are close to Yarm, Middlesbrough and Stockton in Teesside, Cleveland to the East and Barnard Castle to the West.

Are you a sports physio or sports physiotherapist in Darlington?

Many patients come to us as they have injured themselves playing sport as the feet and ankles can take a battering! However, we are not as a profession physiotherapists, so no we are not sport physio’s, or sports physiotherapists. However, we are often referred to as ‘sports podiatrists‘ or ‘msk podiatrists/musco-skeletal podiatrists’.

This does not mean we solely treat sports men and women, so the title can be misleading. What it really means is that we deal with musco-skeletal issues, whether this be through eg arthritis, multiple sclerosis, CRPS, other diseases and medical conditions, or through injuries from taking part in sport.
