Diabetic Foot Assessment

Have you been diagnosed with diabetes?

Would you like a diabetic foot check to ensure everything is being monitored?

If so, we are here to help.

Although many diabetics receive a yearly diabetic foot examination at the NHS, many of our patients like the comfort of having additional foot checks to help give them peace of mind and catch any issues early.

What can be an insignificant issue to someone without Diabetes, can quickly develop into a wound, infection and even ulceration in the diabetic foot.

4 Main Areas On Our Diabetic Foot Screening Assessment

In line with NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) during a diabetic foot screening appointment we will cover 4 main areas:

Neurological assessment

It is essential that we check the function of the nerves in the feet. This is done by using a diagnostic tool such as a monofilament.

Vascular Assessment

In diabetics circulation issues can often arise. As lower limb specialists, podiatrists are trained to identify any skin and nail issues that may highlight vascular issues. During the assessment we will use a machine called a Doppler ultrasound which allows us to hear the blood flowing through the arteries, so we can assess the strength and regularity of the blood flow. We will also take your blood pressure, as high blood pressure is a risk factor associated with diabetes.

General Diabetic Footcare Advice

We will answer any questions you may have to help ensure that your feet are well cared for between appointments. We can also supply diabetic socks, to minimise rubbing issues.

Identify Any Foot Issues

If any other foot issues such as corns or fissures are evident we will discuss treatment required. Treatment for those issues identified may require a future appointment to be booked (at additional cost).

Following the assessment we will send a report to your GP with our findings, to keep them up to date with your foot health.

Problem diagnosed and solved! I chose to come to the Foot Clinic because it seemed to offer a range of treatments. I know that I can come back for further advice and treatment in the future in the knowledge that I will be professionally and sympathetically dealt with.

Foot inspection for in-growing toe nail prevention, dressing the foot, checking circulation and general foot health and toe & toenail maintenance. Reception staff extremely pleasant and welcoming. The clinician was very professional and diligent in his approach to the tasks involved. Very clean and relaxed environment and would highly recommend treatment.

I have complete faith in the professionalism of those at the Clinic. I have been suffering with the pain of neuromas for some years now. I am reluctant to have an operation, which was offered. Ben suggested conservative treatment, which he and his colleagues are trained and qualified to give. These treatments have definitely helped, and although the neuromas will not disappear, the treatments given at the Clinic have meant that I can still lead a physically active life. For example I am able to do aerobics classes, and walk at least 5 miles before any pain kicks in on my left foot. This is the best chiropody clinic I have ever attended, and would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

I have used ‘The Foot Clinic’ twice and found it to be the best in the area. It’s incredibly clean, the podiatrists knowledgeable, and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It’s like going to the Dentist but without the fear or pain. Go on give your feet a treat!!!!.
