A video showing how we mobilise an ankle to help with pain caused by conditions such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis etc
Hi, I’m Lucy from the Foot and Ankle Clinic in Darlington and today I’m going to be showing you some ankle mobilization. Now first of all, don’t try this at home. You need to be a fully qualified professional to do it. It’s actually extra training courses on top of being a podiatrist and we use this alongside rehabilitative heel pain such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis. It really helps to combat any of the stiffness and the muscle guarding that you get when you have had pain in an area for any length of time.
So, I’ve got a patient here today that is very nicely letting me demonstrate on them, so we’re going to do the left ankle. Now, just so that you can see one of the main mobilizations that we do, I’m going to do what’s called a global ankle mobilization. So, I’m just going to rest my knee on the back of your thigh, just to keep your knee down and then we’re going to pull slightly and distract the ankle joint okay, which just gives it a little more room to move. Does that feel okay?
Okay and then we just slowly work around and what we can feel while we’re doing this, so I’ll just let that go back down and pull back up, is we can feel all of the soft tissue loosening up while we do this and there was a little crunch there as well. Okay, so we’ll just do that one more time. Okay. Lovely, so that’s all done and there are several different types of mobilizations that we can do as well, that’s not the only one that we do.
